www.hazeldenbettyford.org Hazelden is a treatment
center for alcohol and other drug addictions, as well
as a publisher of recovery books. Click on the

for short readings from several daily meditation
books published by Hazelden.
www.councilonrecovery.org Located near Memorial
and Waugh in Houston, the Council on Recovery
(formerly the Council on Alcohol and Drugs,
Houston) offers services ranging from intensive
outpatient programs to school and community-
based educational programs. Click on the menu
and then on the links for a list of 12-step meetings
and other support groups.
www.celebraterecovery.com Celebrate Recovery is
a Christian-based version of 12-step groups.
Check their website for locations of local meetings.
DIVORCE
www.divorcecare.org For persons who are
separated or divorced, DivorceCare offers 13
weeks of support through a video and small group
program. Some of the topics covered are
depression, dating again and financial survival.
DivorceCare is offered throughout the US and
Canada. Some groups also offer a concurrent
support group for children of parents who are in
DivorceCare. Visit the website to locate a group
and to sign up for free encouraging daily emails.

DOMESTIC ABUSE
www.ktcm.org Katy Christian Ministries (KCM) helps victims of domestic abuse with legal, housing and other
issues. They offer support groups and other practical assistance. KCM is in Katy, Texas, but persons do not
need to live within a certain geographic area to use their domestic abuse or sexual abuse services.
www.namonline.org Northwest Assistance Ministries' (NAM) Family Violence Center offers help to victims of
domestic abuse and their children, including free counseling. NAM is in northwest Houston on Kuykendahl;
persons do not need to live within a certain geographic area to use NAM's domestic abuse services.
GRIEF
www.bosplace.org Bo's Place, located near Reliant Stadium in Houston, offers grief support services to children
and their families who have experienced the death of another child or adult in the immediate family. Their
services are free.
www.griefshare.org GriefShare is a video and small group-based grief recovery program often offered by
churches. You may sign up for a free daily email meditation and search for a group near you.
www.rachelsvineyard.org Rachel's Vineyard offers weekend retreats for women and men who struggle with
emotional and spiritual pain related to an abortion. Their website gives general information about post-abortion
trauma, as well as lists upcoming retreats. Several Houston-area groups offer Rachel's Vineyard retreats. I
periodically volunteer as a counselor for retreats through New Heart of Texas Ministries.
SPIRITUAL AND LIFE ISSUES
www.cloudtownsend.com Henry Cloud and John Townsend have written many excellent books, including
Boundaries--a must-read for anyone who finds it difficult to say "no." Their website has short video clips
addressing marriage, dating, divorce, self-image, and many other topics.
www.servant.org If you have decided you don't want anything to do with God because of the people who claim
to be God's followers, you are not alone. Gayle Erwin teaches about God's character in a way that is
understandable and hopeful. Many of his teachings are available to download free.
